The President of the Republic of Ghana -H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed a freeze on an increment in the salaries of the president, vice president, ministers, deputy ministers and all members of the Executive arm of government.
This is to check government spending, reduce damage to public revenue and help lessen the financial burden the covid-19 brought to the nation’s economy.
He told this in addressing workers on the ‘International Labour Day.’ He commended workers for their hard work and also promised to run the covid-19 vaccine on them until everyone is served.
The economy of Ghana, like all other nations across the world suffered some dire challenges because of the novel coronavirus. Although the government has taken some serious measures to reduce the effect on ordinary Ghanaians, President Akufo-Addo still believes more need to be done.
That is why he deems it necessary to freeze the increment of salaries of the Executive, in spite of them deserving it for working hard over the past months.
This news is good. It shows great empathy for our leaders and sacrifice.
