The president of Ghana is in hot waters again after the almighty Serwaa Broni interview was aired on Easter Sunday. In the last couple of days, social media has been awashed with a letter written by an woman who claims to be an auntie of a fourteen year old girl who was allegedly defiled by Nana Akufo Addo in 2016.
The letter suggested that the then NPP candidate engaged in sexual intercourse with the under aged, impregnated her and she gave birth to a baby girl. He then used monetary inducements to silence the teenager and her mother hence succeeded in keeping the issue out of the public domain. According to the woman, Nana Addo has reneged on his duties as a father to the girl he brought into the world thereby putting burden on the parents of the victim. The auntie who said she has become a breadwinner to the family reported the issue to ASEPA to help seek justice to the girl who was defiled by Nana Addo in 2016.
Some social media commentators disputed the authenticity of the letter. Some of them accused Kelvin Tailor and NDC of masterminding the content of the letter.
But the founder of ASEPA who is the recipient of the letter has confirmed the content of the letter in circulation. According to Lawyer Mensah Thompson, he received the said letter from a lady by name Ewurama Amawuda based in UK. He said he forwarded the letter to the secretary to the president Mr. Eugene Arhin in October 2021 for comments. Unfortunately the presidency is yet to respond to his request.
Thomson said his organisation lacked the jurisdiction to investigate such a serious allegation hence his decision to refer it to Transparency International for assistance. He assured that he will personally follow the issue up and update his followers.
Meanwhile Mensah Thompson denied leaking the letter in social media. He said because the letter continually mentioned the name of the victim, he didn’t want to publish it through the media. He however couldn’t tell who might had leaked it.
